Cannabis License Info

Updated: August 2022

Marijuana was legalized in Argentina for medical purposes in 2017, but until recently it remained extremely difficult for most to obtain access or proper treatment.  Prior to recent legislation, epilepsy was the only condition for which the government would qualify patients to use medical marijuana.

In November 2020, however, a decree issued by President Alberto Fernández introduced new legislation to advance medical cannabis production.  Patients and caregivers are now eligible to apply for for federal licenses to grow marijuana for medical purposes in their homes, and pharmacies are allowed to sell cannabis-derived oils, creams, and other products to registered patients.  Additionally, public and private insurance must cover these medications for patients who obtain a prescription.
